Founded in 1878 as the Columbus Gallery of Fine Arts, it opened its current building in 1931, designed in the Second Renaissance Revival style by Richards, McCarty & Bulford. The museum boasts a diverse collection featuring masterpieces by American and European modern makers—think Picasso, Matisse, Degas, and more—alongside celebrated local artists like Aminah Robinson, George Bellows, and Elijah Pierce.
